On Tuesday, June 24th, members of the Walker High School administration and faculty attended the annual Summer Conference of the Council of Leaders of Alabama Schools held at the Winfrey Hotel and Conference Center in Birmingham. Mr. Danny Gambrell, principal and Dr. Robert Sparkman, superintendent, accepted the CLAS Banner School award at the annual Awards Luncheon. Walker High was one of only three Alabama high schools to recieve this prestigious award. Gayle Crump, Mr. Gambrell and Tommy Hobson are shown with the Banner Award.
Prior to the Awards Luncheon, a team of faculty and administrators presented a conference session on the innovative programs here at Walker. The Freshman Academy, a freshman transition program, and Algebra for Mastery, the freshman math program, and other W.H.S. programs were explained in detail to conference attendees. Sixty three educators from across the state attended the hour long workshop. Presenting at the conference were Mr. Gambrell, Mr. Hobson, Mrs. Crump, Melissa Dutton, Tera Dollar and Gina Scruggs. Dr. Sparkman, Darell Cooper, Martha LaCroix and Cliff Harper also attended and supported the conference presentors. The powerpoint that was shown at the conference outlining these programs may be requested by emailing Gayle Crump at This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it .
